The role

We are looking for an engineer who can assist Project Leaders through the complete life cycle, from tender production to scheme and detailed design.  The role requires a person who can plan and take appropriate levels of responsibility both technically and commercially, assist with client contact and be able to apply consistently sound judgement.  The role will work closely with a Business Unit Leaders and help to secure repeat business through high quality delivery, offering great opportunities for career progression.

About You

You will have a broad range of skills and experience designing and assessing various types of structure in a range of construction materials and therefore a strong technical background.  The experience you have gained has given you an intuitive feel for civil engineering, and allows you to make engineering judgements quickly, seeking contribution from your peers and team when needed. 

You will be able to demonstrate proven experience in designing many of the below: 

  • Permanent and Temporary structures in a maritime environment (such as jetties, quays, wharves, linkspans, cofferdams, pile gates, scour protection, outfalls, bulkheads etc.)

  • Temporary Works structures including cofferdams, working platforms, formwork & falsework, scaffolds, lifting assessments, temporary foundations to buildings, tower cranes etc.

  • Retaining structures

  • Foundations

  • Over, under and footbridges

  • Culverts and crossings

  • Earth structures

You will be able to lead less experienced engineers and manage internal resources for delivery.  Actively seeking additional responsibility will be part of your personality.  You will build relationships with colleagues and clients through sound engineering delivery. 

Key Skills

  • 1st or upper 2nd B Eng/M Eng (Hons) degree expected from a top UK University or equivalent high quality technical training

  • Working towards Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer

  • Strong knowledge of CDM regulations

  • Familiarity with Quality Management and Quality Management Systems

  • The ability to identify, develop and present civil engineering solutions

  • A good understanding of geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics

  • Desire to drive projects forward and take the initiative where necessary

  • Ability to produce fee proposals, monitor project progress and spend

  • Ability to liaise with clients directly and attend design progress meetings

  • Ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion

  • Ability to function well within a team environment
